[xj-s] Growler

I’ve just finished intalling the intake kits ‘The Growler high
performance air intake kit from FasterJags’. I worked with Brian
refining the fabrication and installation and am extremely pleased
with the results. Not only the installation ‘handsome’, it
certainly gives you more power! After the installation was
complete, I put the T400 in my 91XJS in low gear and eased the RPM
up to 2000. Then I nailed it. The car literly jumped forward.
The different in excelleration was fantastic, plus the fantastic
sound that came from under the hood. At 5000, I pushed it into
2nd. A neck-snapping shift to way over the speed limit before I
knew. My Jag ran very good before the installation of the Growler
kit. Now it’s simply fantastic!–

The changes were nothing major, Gary. Basically, it was the
location of the fittings for attaching the two hoses to the left
hand intake tube to make the installation easier and prevent
interference with the fender well. One of the hoses goes to the
PVC an the larger one back to the AAV. The AAV hose was the most
problematic because it is a ‘special’ hose and the distance and
clocking on the intake has to be right for that hose to connect
properly and reach the AAV.
Also, I rewrote the installation instructions for him. His
original instructions were fine for someone who was a Jag
mechanic. I’m not - by any means. I had trouble figuring out how
to the whole air cleaner box off the left side!
Other than that, there were no problems.–

I met with Brian on Wednesday and picked up his Growler kit.
Installation was easy and straight forward. However I have a
question for the group. If I hold shifter in low and floor it of
course the GM400 shifts to second. It use to shift at 6000 rpm’s
now holding in low it shifts at 6700 rpm’s. I know the GM400 shifts
as a function of throttle opening and vacuum and the governor. With
the engine sucking more air does it make sense that the shift point
at WOT is higher? The GM400 still shifts as normal under normal
driving conditions. I haven’t had a chance to get to dyno yet since
the place is closed until after Thanksgiving but will try to do
that sometime in December. One thing I have noticed is now the XJ-S
will out accelerate my XJ12 sedan now.

Thanks

I ordered his cool cat fan assembly for about $500. I waited for months for delivery. He continually stated the shipment was on the way. I finally got with his credit card processing company and filed a complaint. I then filed a complaint with the north Texas chamber of commerce. I finally got the gear and closed the complaints.

I am done dealing with this company.

I ordered a radiator several years ago from Brian. I too had the same experience waited 6 months for the radiator to be delivered. I tracked down where he lived and told him if he didn’t deliver, the Local cops would be on his door step.

If you keep at Brian, he will eventually deliver. The thing is the products at V12 performance are purchases from other Vendors.
the Growler is from AJ Engineering
the hose kit is nothing more than Uro branded after market parts found on Rockauto same with the ignition
sway bars are from summit racing
EBC pads just about enywhere that sells EBC pads. amazon.com
performance break parts available at rock auto & amazon
FYI, There isn’t any company that makes a 1 piece rear vented brake rotor for the IRS. a two piece rotor package available at XKS.com or purchase the wilwool rotor and machine the center hub. The info is available at wilwood summit racing, the center mount will require fabrication
the “cool cat” is made by a company on the east coast I can’t think of the company but can get it if someone wants to know PM me.

I keep hoping that the Tefba filters I ordered in 2014 will show up. Hasn’t happened yet.
Never again.

Sorry, Dave, I got the Tefba filters. They’re used, but if you still want them, they now include the upper radiator hoses.

I don’t know what Tefba filters are. give me a bit more information I will see if I can source them for you.

Seriously? At least they went to a good home! P.M. headed your way!
Dave.

Mark, thanks for the offer. After waiting a couple of months and nothing showing up (and several e-mails sent) I wound up buying a pair of filters from an outfit in Australia, I think!!
Tefba filters are mentioned in Kirby’s Book, and are placed in both top radiator hoses. They have a screw-on cap, and fine cleanable screens inside. As I was replacing my radiator at the time, I wanted to try to prevent crud from finding its way in. The amount of garbage the filters trapped was amazing. Nice and clean now, though!
Thanks, Dave.
