[xj-s] head-rest

Hi all,

I’m currently trying to get out the head-rest of my XJ6 S1 2.8
1970 but I can’t.
Is there a special action to take to be able to get them off?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, ditto here for my 1989 XJS. I’ve tried pulling, squeeze, poking,
rocking back and forth, etc. but can’t seem to remove the headrests.
Suggestions?

Dim and Wayne:

Can’t say for sure if the headrest on my 84 coupe is the same as yours. The
headrest is held in a bracket by a HHCS. You’ll have to remove the back of
the seat if it is the same as mine.

How do I diagnose a bad distrib. cap?
My old one looks fine, except some corrosion on the B bank electrode at the
very top. It looks as some of the plastic there was melted or eaten away
at some point. Don’ t know why!

I guess I’ ll return the new distributor and use my old one for a little
while longer.

Also, the new distrib. is somewhat heavier than the old and the contacts
are golden as opposed to the old ones whose contacts are silver. Anyone
knows what this means?

Thanks,

I have just checked the parts book for the XJS and it would appear that the
headrest on both the standard and sportspack seats is held in by a stop
screw that you can access by removeing the back panel of the seat. Could be
the same for the XJ6 but I don`t know for sure.

The headrest fitting in the Series I is the same as in the Series II and
III. They are all held in place by an internal friction device which
seems to vary from car to car as far as its grip is concerned.

It can often be the case of brute force winning the day in order to move
the head restraint. Jaguar simply note ‘lifting the head restraint
provides adjustment’ so long as you consider lifting to imply tugging
very hard in some circumstances. Some of these restraints have not been
moved in 20/30 years so do not be surprised if you end up with the full
restraint coming right out of the seat when you finally dislodge it. No
damage done if this happens so long as you do not put your head through
the headlining as it releases.:>)

Paul was right about the XJ-S head restraint being held into the seat by
one screw and spring washer that is screwed through the bottom of the
restraint stem. This is accessible by removal of the seat back section.

Whereas the saloons have the availability of head restraint adjustment,
the XJ-S is a fixed item.
