[xj-s] Is this asymptom of bad accumulator ball

In all of the posts that I have read regarding bleeding the
tevees abs system it states that in order to depressurize
the system, one has to pump the brakes with the ignition
off, until the peddle becomes firm. When I tried this on my
1994 xjs 4.0 convertible, the peddle never got firm, in fact
it went to the floor after a few strokes. As I have been
having abs light on problems {see my other post, the abs
brake diagnostic check only puts the abs light out while the
diagnostic plug is shorted between the 2 wires as required
in the CD rom For the car) It was suggested in a reply to my
previous post, that I might want to replace the accumulator
ball. I would like to add that with the ignition in position
2 the pump can be heard to run and when driving the brakes
work fine (possibly a little soft, but otherwise perfect}.
It would seem to me that if the accumulator is no longer
holding pressure, I might get the symptoms mentioned has
anyone out there either had this experience or is there
someone who knows enough about the ABS system that could
tell me if this could be the problem As always thanks to
anyone who can be of assistance in this matter? Also while
on the subject is it possible that the pressure switch is
going bad? Thanks for any suggestions or help that you can
give me with this problem . I dont know what I would do
without this forum. Thanks again. …Terry Spoor–

On my 89, a bad accumulator made the pedal much more firm,
rather than soft. Have you ever changed the fluid? The front
and rear brake lines? I can’t say it is your problem, but
when I put SS brake lines on my XKE, and my TR6, the pedal
was noticeably much more firm. I can only imagine that the
rubber gives under pressure, and maybe worse as they age?–

If you need a accumulator or pump assembly let me know
offline for details.
