[xj-s] Jack Stand Placement?

Ahoy !
The current posting on jacking got me to thinking about the
proper positioning of jack stands for a convertible.
I may need to rest the convertible on jack stands for 1-3
months.
With respect to supporting the XJS, where are the optimal
locadtions for the jack stands ?
Thanks.

Richard,

I have used Jack stands and found there is not a good
place for them in the front. The Jack points do not fit
well with ‘‘U’’ shaped stands. In the front I used the
point where the front inner wishbone bolts to the frame,
but it is not a great fit. I have never put the rear on
stands so not sure where to do that.
I did a web search and the ones from ESCO 10498 with the
round tops might work well with the button Jack points on
the car, but they are pricey. Of course if you are going
to be under the car you want a really good Jack!
Also be carefull where you put the hydraulic Jack because
the front cross member will dent!
Is this for work or storage?–

Richard,
Depending on the work you are planning, there are a few good
solid suspension points in the front of the car. If you are
gong to be working on the suspension, then your choices
narrow down a bit. If you use the frame rails anywhere on
the car they need to have the load spread out with hardwood
or metal, but that might not give you any bite and allow the
jack stand to slip. There are jack adapters that are made to
go onto pinch welds, but I have not tried them and that does
not apply to jack stands.

As far as the rear of the car goes, everything is the same
as the front with the exception of the diff cradle. There is
a photo in my album of my jacking block that will not deform
the cradle. Since that is dead center I would recommend some
form of outriggers to prevent tipping.

I just thought about how the jacking point buttons can be
used as jack stand points my drilling a hole in a piece of
steel channel that caps the jack stand head. If I still was
working on Jaguars I would be out in the shop fabricating
them now.–

Hello,
Apology - I should have made explicit this is for work.
All the best,
