[xj-s] misses when warm

90 XJS CONV

I have installed:
new injector harness wiring
plugs
plug wires
rotor cap
radiator
radiator caps
coolant filters
coolant temp sensor
Injector cleaner

temp needle stays at the bottom of the ‘N’ usually but as it
approaches the middle of the ‘N’ (never gets above that) the engine
tends to misfire on some cylinders
Listened to ht einjectors and they are all clicking.

Does anyone know what I should check next?

Thanks
if this goes through twice, I apologize.–

I too have experienced this same issue and have done all of the things that you note
and others. In addition I had the injectors professionally cleaned. My problem was
the same as yours sounds like but the warmer the outside ambient temperature the
worse the miss became. What helped my problem more than anything else was replacing
both coils and also replacing the cap and rotor with genuine Marelli parts.

Have you guys checked the Air to fuel ratios when this happens? It
seems to me, many of these V12s have idle mixtures MUCH too lean
which could also contribute to misfires (and an unstable idle -
hunting) - especially if all igntion related parts were replaced.

An easy check is to remove the plug off the manifold air temp
sensors. This results in the mixture being made a little more
rich. If there are less misfires, it could indicate fuelling
related issues.

Best of course is to measure the AFRs with a trustworthy CO meter
or better still, a Wideband Oxygen Sensor to give the actual AFR.

I would expect an AFR of between 13 (CO=4%) and 14 (CO = 1.3%) at
idle based on my very little experience.

Kind regards
