I am having trouble finding 95 octane fuel in the atlanta area. The
highest I can find is 94 and most is 93. The manual states that the
V12 runs on a minimum of 95 octane. Do I have to use an octane
booster?
Kirby Palm’s manual says that it is unwise to run anything less
than 95 octane because you can burn the pistons under certain
circumstances.
Opinions and sugestions please.–

I run 92 or 93 octane in mine all of the time, and I’m not very light
footed. I haven’t had any problems with predetination (pinging) that would
indicate that the octane is too low.
I believe the octane level Kirby is referring to is RON, which is how octane
is rated just about everywhere but the US. 95 RON is actually about 90 at
the US rating. If you’re using premium in the US (typically 93), you’re
covered. Also, the US spec engines have lower compression ratios, so can
run on a lower octane fuel. I wouldn’t personally recommend getting off the
93 US octane, but searching for higher isn’t necessary.

95 RON, which is what the manual recommends, is the European equivalent of
US 91 Octane, which is also referred to as “pump octane”, “RM/2”, or “AKI”.
We wouldn’t want to do the same as everyone else in the world, would we?
That would be too easy.
