[xj-s] Oil Gauge

My 1995 4litre Facelift XJS has a flickering oil gauge. It wildly
flickers between nothing and some where in the middle. It does
occasional settle down but I still dont trust it.

Where is the problem, how can I prove it and what parts do I need?

I would check the lead at the sending unit first to make sure it is
not loose or contaminated. It is to the rear of the oil filter and
can be knocked about during an oil change. If that is good, then
it is most likely the sending unit.–

Good advice! In an automobile almost 12 years old a lot of the
electrical connections get, well, ‘‘kinda iffy’’!

I found, instead of spending a Saturday afternoon polishing the
paint, I got better long-term results spending the same time
cleaning (alcohol on a q-tip) and greasing (di-electric grease)
every connetion I could find.

A simple tssk like that does wonders in improving reliability.
