Hello Chaps,
I’ve been chasing down a P.A.S. fluid leak which I have narrowed down to
the high pressure line between the pump and rack/pinion.
Having now removed the pipe it is obvious that it is not a Jaguar part
and appears to be a combination of original ends and left hand
bend joined together with two sections of high pressure flexible hose.
The leak is from one of the hose/pipe unions.
Having looked at several parts vendors illustrations I can find nothing
that looks like what I have taken off, additionally, the packing
block is missing and there is no sign of an oil cooler, the low pressure
line returning straight to the reservoir. My concern now is that
the cooler may have been removed during various modifications that have
been carried out over the years and this may be contributing
to the current problem. Looking back through the limited service
history the high pressure hose has been replaced no less than three
times in about 15,000 miles, all be it with second-hand parts.
I can’t find any parts lists which do not show a cooler as being
standard on my car so the question is does anyone know better,
were some models/years not fitted with coolers? If the answer is that
it should have one could the removal of the original one be
contributing to the high failure rate that seems to be plaguing the car,
especially bearing in mind the proximity of the B bank exhaust
down pipes. The car is a 1988 XJ-S V12 convertible.
Any words of wisdom will be gratefully received.
