[xj-s] "Pinging" on hot Marelli Ignition engine

Hi All,

my engine starts flawless from cold,runs smooth but has the
tendency to ‘‘ping’’ when hot. The pinging disappears if I pull the
plug in the engine compartment, thus reducing advance. As this is a
Marelli ignition, timing is electroncally controlled. Does someone
know the variables that influence the timing advance?
I also added octane booster, but did not yield any improvement.

I do not know if this is related, but if I re-start a hot engine,
it immediately stalls on idle. If I keep the accelerator pedal
slightly pressed, it keeps running, but rough. As soon as I
engage ‘‘D’’ or ‘‘R’’, the engine continues idling and after a few
yards driving returns to normal.

Any help is highly appreciated.
