[xj-s] Power door lock issue

I decided to change the rubber door handle gasket on my 95
XJS.
Of course the door handle mechanism had to be removed.
I then reassemble the part and closed the door.
I now have a real problem, the doors are locked I can’t
open either of the doors.

What do I have to do to resolve this big problem.

Does anyone know how to solve this…

Take out the windscreen (can be done from the outside).
Climb in, hack off the door cards (youll have to destroy
them)…

Seriously: are the windows open?

Can you open the windows with the remot or in the lock
(press and hold to open as in some cars?)

Are the doors just shut and cant be opened because the
handle doesnt work or are they shut and locked? If so is
the locking the problem or can you lock/unlock but not open
the doors?

Pleas give us some details.

If you do have to break into your own car: side windows are
easiest and cheapest to replace. If you have to smash one
in: put some self adhesive foil on it first (try to cover
the whole window) and then smash it. That way you may have a
chance of not finding bits of glass in your car for the next
15 years.–

As uou know, on an XJS the windiws can’t be automatically
opened.

Certainly, don’t smash a window just yet. It sounds as if
you may have got the adjustment of the remote latch rods
not quite set up correctly and therefore the remote won’t
function properly. So, see if the door will open with the
key instead. With the frameless front window, you might
even be able to get a thin wire from the top down to the
remote latch lever.

Good luck

I did leave the windows open, so I can get into the car
and opened the roof allowing access to the drivers seat.

I can’t use the key to unlock the doors, I have been
trying to unlock the doors by actuating the inside lever.

Unfortunately when pushing the lever It cycles open and
and closes 3 or 4 times but then remains locked. Obviously
the inside mechanism needs to be adjusted. I did manage to
remove the door card but as long as the door remains
locked I cant access the inside lock and door mechanism.
Although I can the rods that connect inside door handle
and locking lever.
Any advise that you can relay regarding this issue will be
greatly appreciated

Pull the fuse for the central locking or disconnect the
battery. Then you should be able to unlock the door without
the solenoid relocking it immediately–

Hi. I had this problem. I straightened out a
wire coat hanger and bent a small hook at the
end then managed to lift the little latch and
the door opened. The latch moves in a slight
semi circle and protrudes through from the
striker plate on the edge of the door which is
hidden when closed. If you hold back the window
rubber with a flat knife you can shine a light
down and see what you are doing. I am talking
about the inside edge of the door opposite the
hinges. Not the door card panel or the outer
panel just straight down the inner edge where
the lock mechanism is. Its about ten inches
down. The whole door lock only operates that
one little latch. Its just a small rod jutting
through from outside to inside and you just
find it hook it and lift it up. Good luck.
