What on earth is ‘distributor lube’?

Lube, short for lubricated, as in freeing up the
distributor advance mechanism in Lucas-ignition cars
(earlier than yours) to allow the distributor to
provide the proper advance curve and help keep the
engine from running hot. I’ve found the ‘book’ to be
an invaluable resource, without it I probably would
not be willing to tackle a second XJS!!__________________________________________________
