On the shelf in my garage I have a 7/8 full quart of black SEM Vinyl Color
Coat. It is meant to be used without further reduction in the same sort of
spray gun you would use to paint a car. I’m over in Pleasanton, and if you
want to take a trip to the East Bay, you are welcome to use it. The only
thing is, this stuff is 18 years old. You might want to contact SEM (the
label says they are in Belmont, Calif) and find out if this stuff has a
shelf life. It sloshes around the can just fine, so it hasn’t hardened.

Back in 1985, I bought a theft-recoevred 1985 Toyota Supra that had been
stolen brand new from a dealer and stripped. The whole interior was missing.
Some of the trim parts that I picked up were red, but needed to be black,
and this stuff did the job just fine.

They’ve also got vinyl paint at most autoparts stores. In my sillier
riceboy import days I turned a grey interior red with the stuff and it
works great on vinyl and vinyl only. It will stay reliable as long as
you use several thin coats (I used a can and a half on a dashboard
alone… not my XJ-S mind you) for an even finish and no one was able to
notice that I had done it myself. It didn’t fade for the 8 months it was
on my car (the car was stolen after that time), however I made sure to
use only soap and water (no Armor-All or other chemicals like that) from
that point on as a precautionary measure.
