[xj-s] Re: Radio Code

Kevin

After 3 or 4 attempts with incorrect codes, radios “seize” & won’t accept
the correct code without being left turned on for 2-3 hours before
resetting - not just a jag phenomenon - also affects bimmers (personal
experience w/both)

Chances are the code the shop gave you is correct - leave the radio on
(powered), go out for a couple of hours & then try it.

I am a new owner of an XJS and am trying to figure out the code for the
radio. The Radio Model # is AJ8700 and Serial# B61024125, I had a shop look
it up and they gave me a code of 14333 but it did not work. Is this the
wrong code or am I not doing something right in punching it in.

Thanks for the help.

You have to keep the car running for 1 hr before you input the code.

Not exactly true. You need to have the ignition & radio switched on. The
engine does not have to be running.“Fred Roberts” us014372@mindspring.com wrote:

On my car with Jag radio, I only had to keep the radio on - used the ‘Aux’ position
on the ignition switch. Saved a load of fuel.

I know this is a very old thread, but I don’t want anyone else to make the mistake I did. I pried an old tape out of the cassette deck of the OEM radio in my '88 XJS convertible. THEN I followed the one-hour rule; drove the car for an hour, plugged in the radio code, and it worked. Except now I have to keep a tape jammed in the cassette player to keep it from trying to eject non-existent tape after I pried it out of the mechanism and broke it. Just FYI. The waiting one hour while driving and then entering the code does work. Don’t pry out a tape if it’s in there, just eject it after you enter code. I regret the mistake I made. Patience pays off…
