[xj-s] Real " cool" XJS on Ebay

In reply to a message from Woodyxjs sent Fri 8 Feb 2008:

If that e-bay listing was worth a chuckle, then this one
will bring tears to your eyes. Too bad the hapless owner
didn’t know about this forum. As if further confirmation of
the old saw ‘‘Jaguar cars are not for everyone’’ were needed…

What is it with these cartoon style wheels every where at
the moment. They are horrible to drive around on bumpy and
expensive???–

Actually I kind of like it. I’ve thought of sidepipes, and a
rollbar myself. The spoiler doesn’t look bad. I don’t really care
for the wheel arch trim but have seen on lots of XJS’s. The Leaper
on the hood has been discussed here and seems to be a matter of
personal taste, again seen on many XJS’s. The fire extingusher is
good sense. I do wish he’d shown an underhood picture of the 600.00
custom air filtration system he replaced his air cleaners with.
It’d be interesting to see how he did it. I do agree on the wheels
though…but it is his car.

I think the headers and sidepipes are a great idea. The wheels are
rather hideous, but it isn’t my car, so how am I to judge? I have
to wonder how much the rear spoiler works, since it looks a bit
flimsy to me. Creating a slight vaccuum under the car is actually
much more effective, and doesn’t increase drag as much either.
Fancy spoilers are useful only at higher speeds. If you
regularly drive at 100+ MPH, then a rear wing might be the correct
solution, but if you don’t, it is a waste. It just adds weigh and
doesn’t even function at lower speeds.
I guess you nee to ask what you want… a car you are going to
drive really fast or a car that you want to tour in. Personally, I
find more satisfation in having a nice running car that satisfies
my desire for a little power when I want it. But that is what I
like.
That being said, aerodynamics of these cars are pretty great
as they come from the factory. Have you ever looked at a DeLorean
head-on? They are shaped the way they are for a reason. Compare
the two sometime… it is very unusual. Plagarism at it’s best, if
you ask me.

I use the term ‘‘cool’’ in the traditional sarcastic manner.

Yup, it’s gone now. E-bay has a policy that allows sellers
to remove the listing if the car is sold to a local buyer
outside of the e-bay auction. I’m guessing that’s what
happened here.–

I agree that the sidepipes look really good! I’m not to much of a
fan of the spoiler however but like some said earlier, it’s his car.–
