[xj-s] rear wheel hub inner bearing

hello there
thank to anybody who has helped in the past
I am rebuilding the rear hub on my 93 xjs with inboard brakes
it seems like there is no or minimal resistance when I try to
push the inner bearing over the wheel hub from the back
would that cause any problem or when I tighten the castle nut
to spec would take care of that ,
I am worry that the inner part of the bearing cone would spin
under load instead of bearing themselves
I hope I am clear , it is hard to explain–

Mine is with the outboard brakes, but the hub and the
bearing is the same

The old race I had to drive with a punch.
Took some banging, but came out relatively quickly.

The new – I put in the freezer, while the hub was heated to
about 200 F. It went right in, and I just needed to gently
tap with the bearing driver to make sure it is properly
seated.

If yours is not tight, something is wrong. It has to be,
otherwise, you are right that the race will spin in the hub
and will make a huge mess.

Hi, make sure you have the XJS bearings and not the XJ6.
XJ6 a tad smaller.

Hello Steve
my bearing are the correct bearings for sure , I am not
talking about the races , the races are very tight in the hub
carrier , I am talking about the inner bearing on cars with
inboard brakes , the inner bearing itself slides over the
actual wheel hub from the back of the hub carrier , that is
what I am talking about , I will add a picture to my photo
album in next 10 minutes–

Mike:
If your inner bearing does not fit properly, I can think of
only two explanations:

  • bearing and race are not matched
  • the spacer and the shim are incorrectly installed

Compare your notes with my pictures #7, #8, and #9.
Forget about the brakes, the hub/bearing design is the same.

Best regards,
Steve–

Steve
they are correct and installed correctly , we are not talking
about the race at all , my concern is the fitment of the
cbc1784 in to c15230
imagine the race does not exist
the the other hub is perfectly fine.–

Mike:
If one side is good and the other is not, and you are 100%
sure the bearing kits are correct and installed properly
(inner in and outer out), then, it must be the hub, right?
Have you measured the hub diameter for both sides?
I realize we’re going in circles here, but something is amiss.

Steve
PS I don’t remember how tight mine were. Did not need to bang
the hub too hard to come out, so must not have been VERY tight–
