[xj-s] Removal of Radio in 95 XJS

Can anyone let me know how to remove the radio in my 95 XJS. It
has the late face-off radio. I have removed the two nuts behind
teh air-con controls but can’t seem to remove the panel. Is there
something else holding the radio in place?–

Paul,
If your '95 is like my '94, once you remove those two nuts at the
a/c controls, the radio surrounding plate should partially slide
off, but you still need to undo its harness connector, which is
right below the plate’s center area, at the end of the ski slope.
Once the connector is undone, the plate should come off and (at
least on my '94) you’ll see four screws holding the radio at its
four corners. Once those four screws are removed, the radio should
just slide out. However, my OEM radio was not the removable face
type (I’ve installed a more modern radio since), so you may not
have those four screws, in which case is likely that you need to
push in some tabs, somewhere on the sides. Most likely you’ll see
more clues on how it is mounted once you remove the surrounding
plate. Further yet, most modern radios with removable face plate
will come off without the need to remove its surrounding panels.

Paul,
Did you get your radio out of your 95 XJS Convertible? I am trying to remove mine. It is a Alpine Head Unit. The face detaches and there are rivet type things on each side that slide. I suspect they have something to do with removal. I saw the reply from the guy with a 94 XJS. I believe the 95 is different. Don’t think there are the 4 screws as he described. Any suggestions?

Robert,

the description of removal still holds true for the face-off Alpine units that were fitted from April 94 onwards. Have you removed the nuts on the aircon knobs and then carefully removed the large plate as described by Reinaldo? Remember that you need to remove the small slide knob at the bottom first.

Once you do that. the overall unit can be removed by undoing the two screws on each side. I’m going to try and load a pic of the unit in sit with the four screws. If this doesn’t work, drop me an email with your email address and I’ll email the pic to you.

Cheers

Paul

Beautiful. Got it. Removed radio successfully! Thanks!
