I needed to replace (2) old/leaky injector hoses on my rail over
the weekend…I was told by my jag mechanic that this was a very
time-consuming job…normally only done with complete fuel rail
removal…so naturally I did not listen to him and charged ahead on
stupidly my own…but his advise did proved true…as the first
hose I tackled was a total bitch to get off the rail…but after
1hr of much sweating and cussing at the first hose…I did finally
figure out a neat ‘‘trick’’ to removing the old hardened hoses…you
just need to slice the hose in a diagnoal direction from top to
bottom…I use a sharp exato knife…it sure helped alot…then
simply ‘‘peel’’ the old hose off the rail…using the diag cutting
trick the second hose only took 10min to replace from start to
finish!..new replacement FI hoses slipped right back on like a
glove.
Viola…I now have two new injector hoses back on my car with those
little OEM end caps intact too…I think this method will only work
with injector#1 thru 4 as #5 and #6 looks much harder to get at
using this method…of course your own results may vary…Hope this
shortcut can help other with crusty old fuel rail hoses.–

If two are gone, bet your life that the others will go very soon
and you have a potential fire risk. It isn’t a long job, if that’s
all you’re doing an afternoon should clear it and you can change
plugs, cleanb out the V etc whilst you are in there.
To get at the difficult ones, you’ll have to take the rail off
and so you should change the seals on the injectors at the same
time. There’s a great tip in ‘‘THE BOOK’’ about removing the old
hard hoses using an electric soldering iron, it works and you won’t
risk nicking the hose barbs with the possibility of pressure leaks
later on

On my V12 I didn’t have alot of luck with the soldering iron,
probably as my cheap iron didn’t get hot enough.
What worked for me was to use a magnifying light and I had a very
small diamong burr wheel on my dremel, and at slow speed I ran it
down inside the cup.
The burr was so small that it fit between the cup and the barbs and
I found that once the internal braiding is cut through, I
esentially made a small channel down into the cup, that the hose
loses it’s grip and it will pop off.
As others have said…DO NOT knick the barbs.
BTW: Use the correct HIGH pressure fuel injection hose WITH the
original cups.
