[xj-s] Ski Slope Removal

I have checked the archives and ‘‘The Book’’ and di find some tips
for the skislope removal.

I have removed the screw under the armrest/storabe box. I loosened
the screws holding the side tabs. I unsnapped all the switches.

My problem is I cannot budge the gear selector housing. I assume
that after removing the shifter knob the assembley will slide over
the selector lever. Are their locations on the housing I need to
unscrew or unsnap?

The gear selector assy with black side and top showing
shift pattern stays in place. The skislope should
come out. You can remove the ashtrays to see and get
a better grip. Carefull with the lower ashtray
bracket screws or you will be removing the console to
find them under the carpet.— Ron Sant ronmyers@adelphia.net wrote:

The selector housing stays with the console cover (ski slope).

I think you’ve got them all.

Thanks Guys,

It is too late and too dark in the garage to check it out.

I plan on removing the old wood and replacing it with some veneer I
purchased.

Will it become obvious how to remove the selector housing after I
pull it?

Ron,

I lied! What I should have said is the console cover comes up,
leaving the selector housing behind. The selector housing is
attached to the body. At least that’s the way it is on the early
XJ-S.

Sorry.

I just refitted my skislope (88 model). There is only the one or
two screws at the back under the cover of the centre cubby hole
clip, and the two nuts accessed through the lighter and speed
control switch cutouts. The skislope has two tabs at the front that
engage in the aircon construction, just under the radio surround,
so you must lift it out at the back. That is it. It slides over the
gearbox selector housing. Check if yours is not caught at a corner
at the back where those one or two screws came out. (I’m reasonably
sure it is just one screw, but whatever how much, it is very
visible.

Thanks to all responders!!

The right rear corner next to the storage compartment/armrest was
really stuck. I finally pried it off and the slope slid off nicely.

I had another slope ready to install. The install went well, with
the exception of breaking a tab on the cruise control switch. I
will replace it. Also the replacement of the ash trays was a little
dicey, but that is finished.

I think I will go back in the garage to look at it again!

                                          Thanks Again
