The fan belt is slipping on my 96 xjs. I replaced the belt
but do not have the proper tension on it. I can see the
belt’s looseness as it’s moving. The belt squeals along on
the pulleys. It is funny, the belt squeals when I stop to
park, or when I get in my neighborhood or when pedestrains
are present. It is as if the car is trying to embarrass
me. How do I tighten the fan belt tension?–

Sandy, you don’t say what engine your Xjs has. If it’s
the four liter six, then one belt adjuster is on the AC
compressor, one is on the alternator if I recall
correctly.–
