[xj-s] Spoiler welding

I have my front spoiler being repaired at a plastic welding shop
and the technician is having difficuluty matching the plastic weld
rod with the material of the spolier. Does anyone know for sure
what the front spoiler on an 87 XJS is made of?–

I wonder, with this item costing about 100 euros new, is it worth
fixing rather than just buying a new
one?–

I have twice successfully repaired my airdam with a product called

Mar-Hyde. The second repair was rather major inasmuch as it was completely
broken in two pieces with numerous fractions . . . by a porcupine
encountered at speed.
The Mar-Hyde procliams that it repairs punctures, gouges and tears in
soft urethane bumpers as well as polyethylene, polypropylene, ABS and most
other automotive plastics. It works for me, but it does require to be
painted black after the repair. I used rustoleum.

After driving over concrete “stops” that I thought - at that moment - my
XJ-S would fit over it I finally tore my front lower spoiler to
disrepair. I felt that if replaced it with ANOTHER hard spoiler I would
be nothing short of INSANE. I looked a long while and found a reputable
place to buy one that comes in a box - is softer & very BLACK as wanted -
in 1989 & has been impervious to damage. IF you simply continue to not
use good judgment and really drive completely over things like that which
is - in my opinion - at least mildly insane - you should never need to
replace that item again.

At first I had my doubts about it’s looks but found out in a very short
time that - with ALL of it’s screws in place - & with a few others on my
own just to be sure - I cannot tell the difference and when I do go a
little too far over one - seldom - I can back out slowly with no damage
to my spoiler.

I have shown my car and received a 98.5% out of a 100% PERFECT score but
the spoiler was NEVER a reason and 98.5% is the lowest score I’ve ever
received and mine is a “daily driver”!

It was not really expensive - not cheap - but even so - much less than
buying another HARD “Original” and only have to eventually replace it
again no matter how careful you were. And even tho I’m a pretty much a
perfectionist, I’m completely satisfied and have been for a long time.

Securely attached - you cannot tell it’s not an original - but it does
take a very short while to completely form to your car. I put a few more
metal screws than called for just for my own self. It does come with all
that are needed - I just felt better with more there. Just be careful
when installing it and do it right - look from all angles before final
screws intact.

If I’m not wrong I got it at Welsh. If you find I didn’t just do what I
did - look around, compare prices and ask for photos and/or brochures &
take your time … !!!

Cheers,
