[xj-s] Strange problem-solved and now a new one

Replaced the coil in my 94 today. The engine now runs great. To
refresh everyone’s memory, I had thought it was the fuel pump since
the problem ended at 2500 rpm. But the dead A bank confused me and
I never had a coil work only at higher rpm. Will replace the other
coil prophylactically.

But as soon as I started it, the check engine light and FF19 came
up. Could this be related or a seperate problem altogether? Any
suggestions where to start?–

Maynard,

Glad you have your car running correctly.

FF19 is fuel metering above idle. Your coil problem
could cause this problem. Clear the code and drive
the car to see if it comes back.

Check the response of the O2 sensor.

Did you have the battery undone when you changed the coil? You
should have. If not this may (as previously said) have set your
code. Undo the negative battery post for 5 minutes then try it
again.–

Why? The coil is not powered when the ignition is off.

It is common (and good) practice to undo the battery any time you
are undoing an electrical connection or sensor on a computer
controlled vehicle.–

Don’t think that disconnecting the battery would have done anything
to prevent thelight from coming on since the coil is only hot with
the ignition on.

Disconnected the battery and the code disappeared.–
