[xj-s] Top Tip to depressurize the fuel system

Had to pull the induction manifolds this week to check the
valve clearances and since I like to make myself life easy I
pulled both with the full fuel ring, injectors, balance
pipes etc. in one pice.

So I had to depressurize the fuel system. Ive found that
the easiest way to to so does not involve fiddling around
with anything in the trunk.

Instead I just start the engine and then pull the knob of
the crash control box in the left door jamb. This seems to
kill the fuel pump and thus the engine dies.

When I then pull the fuel lines I find there is practically
no pressure left in the system and no more than a dribble
from whats left in the lines will spil.

Saves a lot of time and effort.–

What is the ‘knob of the crash control box in the left door
jamb’? Never heard of such a thing? Does the 1993 XJS have
one?–

there is a fuel kill sensor in the door jamb (little black
plastic bow with a short rod protruding from top. in a
crash, it pops up and kills electricity to fuel pump.

you can gently pull up on this little rod to do the same
thing, then push back in when done–

He’s got a V12. Not sure if the 6-cyl has one, it could.
In the US, it is called ‘‘inertia switch’’
