Spanner,

Log onto the Captain Jaguar website and download the Jaguar OEM S57
Electrical Guide for your model year XJ-S. It’s free.

The S57 Electrical Guide will answer your immediate question, provide the
electrical schematics, and show you where all of the components are located.

It’s a big file, so it will take a while to download. It will also be
helpful to you the next time you have an electrical issue.

Here’s the link:

my '86 xjs recently has issues with all turning signals not working
one day and then working again on another. is there a relay somewhere
or a central control unit somewhere?

There is certainly something flaky in that circuit somewhere. On my
'83, when I had the cruise control on, I could turn on a turn signal
and the car would surge forward briefly before settling back to the
set speed. Did that as long as I owned the car. Barely noticeable
in OEM configuration, but after I had the AJ Engineering Super
Enhanced mod done to the ECU it became VERY noticeable, the car would
LEAP forward for a half second when the turn signal was engaged!
Just exactly what the turn signal circuit has to do with the cruise
control, I dunno, and I was never able to figure out how to fix that.
In all likelihood it was a corroded connection somewhere, and it’s
possibly the SAME corroded connection that’s causing your maladies!
There are some here suggesting a relay, or perhaps the flasher unit
itself, but on a Jaguar there’s every possibility the problem is just
some connection somewhere. And replacing a relay or a flasher unit
might just fix it, because you have to disconnect and reconnect in
the process!

Spanner,

In another email I gave you a link to the electrical Holy Grail for your
car. Log onto Captain Jaguar website, download the S57 Electrical Guide
for your year and model, and you will have the location with easy to
understand drawings. The S57 will be useful for this problem, and many
more that you may have in the future. I believe it is best to give you the
location of where you can obtain for free an official Jaguar OEM document
with lots of valuable information. Check my earlier email.
