[xj-s] V-12 Trunk issues

Mornin’ gents,

We’ve been putting all the trim and lights back onto a 1989 Jaguar
XJS V12 after it came back from the body shop and now the trunk
won’t open. The handle feels like there is no resistance when
trying to open the trunk.

Does anyone know how to access the boot/trunk when it refuses to
open?–

there may be better ways, but the previous owner of my 84 xjs
removed the number plate and cut a small hole in the panel with
hole saw and activated the mechanism to release boot. plug hole
with blanking grommit and reinstal number plate and you would never
know. if you decide to do this email me offlist and I will email
you photo of location of hole.–

The hasp is held on by a plate. Oftentimes, a good upward yank
can pull the hasp from the plate and the boot will open.–

What is your email address? My '89 XJS boot won’t open. I feel no resistance on the latch. Need information on where to drill a hole(s).

My email address is:
dorman6150@gmail.com

Tried to find a picture for you of when a hole had to be drilled to open the boot when my computer bag strap got tangled in it. Did not find the picture but did find my notes that the hole is to be drilled 6 inch from the top of the boot and one inch to the right. I saved the cut out piece and epoxied it back once the operation was done. Only good thing is it is covered by the license plate. Hope yours will open with a stiff yank up.

How big is the hole?

Have been away but tonight took a picture of the boot access hole behind the plate. A better description of where to drill the hole is to measure from the bottom edge of the boot lid 2/7/8 inches and 5/8 inch to right of center. My hole drill used was 1 1/4 inch. The right side of the attached picture is centered on the boot lid. Hope this is of help.
