[xj-s] Water Pouring in Under Dash

I feel as though owning a Jag is like a quest, maybe Raiders
of the Lost Ark? A few years ago I replaced all window
gaskets. Still had some drips coming in from under the
dash. Figured you can’t get em all. I know the A pillar is
where water can get in. The other day I go to very powerful
new auto wash. The water began pouring in under the dash.
Somehow, I never knew about checking the drain tubes that
exit the vent below the windscreen. They were filled with
dirt and leaves. The water evidently then builds up and
pours over into the fresh air vent. These cars are amazing.–

John,

The other day I go to very powerful new
auto wash. The water began pouring in under the dash.

I stopped taking my car to the automatic carwashes years ago. In addition to maximizing the chance of a leaky window seal causing extensive rust before you discover it, the knees of the guys washing the inside windows will damage the aging leather and/or stitching.

Somehow, I never knew about checking the drain tubes that exit the vent
below the windscreen. They were filled with dirt and leaves. The water
evidently then builds up and pours over into the fresh air vent.

This is a well known problem. But of course one doesn’t know about that till it happens!

Rule #1: Only take ‘‘rental’’ cars through Auto Car Washes nothing
else EVER deserves that (actually not even rental cars).–

Thanks SO MUCH! I had thought this was due to a clogged drain for air conditioning condensation… but your explanation makes far more sense. Will check this out!

As a Christian, I also wondered if possibly our beloved XJS might be performing a Foot Washing on me. I was wearing sandals so no problem. I was wondering if she would then energize the floor vents with soothing warm air to dry my rather large feet!!!

LOL!! When your feet were being bathed, did you utter, “Jesus!?”

:)

Well, would have started praying if the Dear Kitty had turned on her heater to dry my feet!!!
