[xj-s] Will not fire, Fuel pump, ecu etc?

Apologies if this is repeat post seems some e-mail copies
got deleted. Thx

Hello all,
84 xjs will not fire. Engine turns over but seems as
if not getting fuel. I had the ecu replaced about 2 years
ago and car worked fine. The car has been sitting idle for
about 9 months now. Last time I started it it worked fine
but I shreded the alternator belt. SO it took me 9 months
to get belts and time to fix it and now it will not start.
Fuel was low(mayebe empty?) and when I removed fuel
cap there was some dust/debris/rust but not too much. Fuel
filter has less than 500 miles on it. As I noted above
ignition and everything seems to work fine just will not
fire up.(i realize that w/o an alteranor belt it would be a
short trip but I am just trying to get it up on ramps to
change that belt and all the others as well)
The top half of the fuel pump is hot after trying to
crank it over 4-6 times. I stopped added 5 gallons of gas
in case fuel had evaporated and tried again the next day
with the same result. The top of the fuel pump being hot
might indicate a blockage in the system but I am not sure
where that might be or how to diagnose if that is the
problem or not. I have been working on car alone so I can
not turn the key and listen to the fuel pump at the same
time. However when I put key in and turn ir to 2 position
and go to trunk I do not hear fuel pump engaging.
Does anyone have any thoughts on what could be causing
this? Fuel pump, relay, line, clogged filter, ecu problem
or because it sat for so long in direct sun could fuel have
evaporated or could there be some other problem in the fuel
system or engine compartment b/c of sitting for an extended
length of time with out starting? Oh, yeah battery was
removed durring storage and was fully charged before
attempting this procedure. Thanks for your input.–

Remove pump and bench test. See if it can move fuel from one
can to another. If that is good go to power. See if you have
12 volts to pump positive side.
If not check relays fuses and ground connections.–

Hi,

if you switch the ignition on, do you actually hear the pump running
for a few secs, like it should on a V12 (priming the fuel rail)? Have
someone listen inside the boot if not sure. The pump getting hot
suggests it is getting power but has seized (which is not uncommon).
Sadly then the only thing left is to put in a new one and they’re
still not very cheap… The good news is that the ECU’s fine;)–

Beach22,

If you need a suitable pump, do this:

It will fit and work just fine!–
