Take a look at item 230177597682 on Ebay (I have no
connection to the seller). Seems a bit pricey, however.
I don’t think XJ6, XJ40 wiper motors will be a bolt in
replacement. They look different.
For some reason, electrical equipment on XJS’s does not seem
to appear on any other Jaguar - for example, the window motors.
Good luck.–

I am having a hard time finding a wiper motor for my 86 XJS.
Would it be possible to use a motor out of an XJ6?
Any advice on where to find one or aother motors that would
work in it’s place would be greatly appreciated.

I bought my 86 XJ-S last weekend and am like a kid at
Christmas. Currently I am having my gas tank leak repaired
by a shop that is coating the inside and outside of the tank.
My next project will be to replace the fuel injector hoses.
I have just reinstalled my tank after having taken it out in search
for fuel odors. The shop that did the RENU on it several years ago
tested it for leaks and found two sources. One, the large fitting
had a hairline crack apparently due to over tightening. They soldered
it
to avoid ruining the coating with welding. Also, that same fitting
still
leaked due to corrosion or something on the seat where the compression
fitting
is supposed to seal. Rather than having it cut out and replaced ($$$)
I applied some LockTite 592. That stopped the leak during air test,
and
I am hoping for the best. I got the other 2 fittings leak free by
carefully cleaning the threads, lapping the seats using fine lapping
compound, and replacing the ferrules. I will put the gas back in it
and
test drive it tomorrow.
I can give more complete info on all this if you need it. My advice it
to have the shop
do a leak test with the fittings in place before taking it home.

Thats not a bad idea. One nice thing is that this shop said
that if they only coated the inside of the tank they would
only warranty the tank for 1 year. If they did both the
inside and out, they would guarantee it for life. It was a
no brainer and only cost me 300 bucks. The guy said if he
had known it was out of a Jag he would have doubled the
price since their are so many baffles. Lucky for me he
honored the quote he gave me over the phone.–

Also, get them to pay close attention to those fittings. I’m pretty
sure
they plug them with something to keep the coating out of the threads,
but in my case I think they didn’t succeed. The nuts were very hard to
screw in, and they shouldn’t be. I had to use a dental pick, tracing
the
thread all the way from the top to the bottom.

best of luck with your XJS when you get your wiper motor you can
easily dismantle it, this will allow you turn the drive gears and
pinion through 180 degrees giving you unused mating surfaces. I did
this seven years ago and it’s still going strong.
