[xj-s] wishbone mounting/bush's replace

Hi

I need to replace the front upper and lower wishbone
mounting/bush’s for both sides.

Is this something a novice person can attempt or Should I pay for
the labour to get it done?

How would I go about it - is there documantation anywhere for me to
download?.

Pls help

Kind regards
Alf

Alf:

I am about to begin this job myself, on my '90. In my case, I
absolutely must do the lower bushes, as they are gone on the
driver’s side, altogether.

I have fabricated the tooling to a) do the engine support and b) to
remove the springs.

With regard to the engine support: I am going to remove the front
suspension to do this job, and the engine must be supported for
this. I have seen others post to the effect that it IS possible to
do the lower bushes without completely removing the front
suspension, but one must at least undo the rear subframe mounts,
and rotate the front subfame about the front mounts, in order that
the A-arm bolts can be removed and re-inserted. I figure I’ll just
drop the suspension and have more access when doing the job.

The top bushes can be done without removing the springs, but the
springs MUST be removed to do the bottom bushes. Yeah, I know. I
wouldn’t be doing this whole job if all I had to do was replace the
bottoms, and this could be done with everything on the car.

I would take a look at Kirby’s book, and Bernie Embden’s site to
get an idea of what’s involved. The Jag CD manual is worth a look,
too.

I trust others who’ve done this will weigh in as well.

Good Luck!–

Many thanks for your inputs, as a result I will be leaving the job
to someone more skilled than I.
