[xj-s] Wood veneer trim repair/restoration/refinishing

It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to visit this forum,
but I just finished a project and and thought I would share it
with all in case anyone else has wood veneer trim which is in need
or repair.

I may need to redo the link with a shorter URL, but I’m trying the
full URL first.–

Jerry . . .

Thanks very much for this - a clear and lucid set of
instructions.–

Jerry,
You get the WIZARD award of the year! looks great. I have
printed your post, you should put this on the XKE and XJ
sites for them, since some of those models probably have
the same issues.

Thanks Dan,

Excellent idea about posting it on the other forums … the MK
VII, XK 140, MK, MK II, E-Type and XJ I had so many years (and
decades) ago also had thin veneer over wood backing, so it should
work for basically any year and model Jag or British car which has
wood trim with veneer.–

I know this topic is old and there are a lot other discussions along similar lines. After reading through much of what’s in the archives, I decided this is something that I do NOT want to do on my own:

The steering wheel is half wood and half leather, both the very good shape.
Only the veneer around the horn button is peeling off and parts of it are gone.

Can anyone recommend a business that might be willing to fix this?
The usual suspects britishautowood and cgautowood have already been tried.

Thanks.
