[xj] S3 XJ interior/paint options

I’m thinking about restoring an S3 XJ12L and looking at
paint/interior choices. None of the brochures on the site
show
the options available. Are there any scans of the options
available?

Right now I’m considering black/red interior and black/blue
interior. If anyone has any pictures of those, I’d love to
see them.

Also, Will earlier S1/2 chrome bumpers fit on a S3 car? I
really hate those ugly rubber bumpers.

Plans are for something similar to this car, but in 4door
XJ12L VDP state.–

I have the options listed for the 1986 XJ6/VDP.
You’ll see them in my photo album here:

http://www.jag-lovers.org/snaps/snap_view.php3?id=1201233021

Also…I don’t believe Jaguar ever did black exterior
with blue interior…that’s kind of “no no” with
combinations…no??? I could be wrong but I think
Jaguar realized the importance of not clashing these
two colors which is why for the Series 3 they actually
had the center console surround in Isis blue for those
interiors instead of the standard XJ6-black. Too bad
for the pre-1986 interiors the upper trim in the car
was actually black!!

The only blue exterior available with a black interior
for the 1986 sedan line was “Steel”, and Jaguar
doesn’t even call that “blue” in the brochure.

That is Fantastic Steven. Just what I was looking for.
I realize now I should have written grey/blue combination.
I’ve seen this on an XJ40 and liked it a lot. Looks good with
a white (or grey) piping combination.

Do you have a flat scan that shows the colour names? I’m
leaning slightly towards black exterior, with a red interior.–

Sshack (can we have your name?):

While Jaguar would/will build a car bespoke - that is virtually any way you
want it, there was no black/red nor black/blue interior as an “optional”
fitting (I assume you mean black leather with blue or red piping?. You could
have the piping in a contrasting shade by special order. Check Jagcare III
for photos of interiors bits.

As a matter of detail: all Series III cars were built on the “long”
wheelbase, so there was no “XJ12L”. Are you considering a “V12 Vanden Plas”
interior? These cars were supplied with no options (depending upon the
market), that is, fully equipped; “options” were limited to the fog lamps
and for some models the choice of Ogle or Kent wheels. Cars supplied to the
UK had a full range of options which would bring them up to the full
Canadian, Australian or US specification. Where are you?

Bumpers: not an easy switch.

Have I misunderstood the colour combinations offered in the Jaguar
booklet or is it possible for a base model 1985 XJ6 in Australia to
have had the doeskin interior? The plate in the engine bay shows an

Frank:

Jaguar offered different trim colours and options (indeed, still does) in
different markets, adjusted in coordination with the local Jaguar
organization. The cars offered for Australia were different in model range,
equipment and trim from those offered, for example, in Canada. Jaguar Canada
“block ordered” cars in specific colours and trims; there were no (factory)
options of any kind offered on these cars; they were “fully equipped” and
differed only in colour/trim.
A similar situation existed in Australia from what I can determine.
In Canada at least, Doeskin (AEE) was a V12 Vanden Plas/xj6 Sovereign trim
colour; it was NOT available on the “plain” XJ6. But that does not mean that
Jaguar Australia ordered cars the same way. They may well have ordered xj6
cars with the Doeskin interior colour - or the car could have been a special
order, OR the car could be a Japanese/Hong Kong import (there are a
significant number of these in Australia).

G’day Frank,
My '85 XJ6 is Cobalt Blue with doeskin upholstery. (AEE). It’s not a
foreigner either, mastercare book says it was sold new by Brookvale Prestige
cars in NSW on 16/9/85. Built June '85, complianced by Jaguar Rover
Australia in August '85.

Here is the text of what those images say of
combinations…

Now this is for the 1986 USA-destined Jaguar line, but
of course "subject to change"in the fine print…CASE
IN POINT! that rare Moorland Green 1986!!! Xj6 I
posted about in my album, build date of June 1986.
Moorland Green is a “1987” model color, unreal to find
it on a 1986, but like I said in
the captions, that Moorland Green 86…Jaguar all
ready fitted the Trim codes on the VIN sticker mounted
on the inner door jamb, and removed the silver plaque
that existed in the engine compartment.

Here goes:

EXTERIOR - INTERIORS OFFERED

XJ6 Sedan:

Black - Biscuit, Black, Buckskin, Mulberry, Savile
Grey

Cirrus Grey - Buckskin, Mulberry

Claret - Biscuit, Black, Buckskin, Savile Grey

Cobalt Blue - Biscuit, Buckskin, Isis Blue, Savile
Grey

Curlew - Biscuit, Buckskin

Jaguar Racing Green - Biscuit, Buckskin, Savile Grey

Steel - Biscuit, Black, Isis Blue, Savile

Tudor White - Biscuit, Black, Buckskin, Isis Blue,

Windsor Blue - Biscuit, Savile Grey

VANDEN PLAS SEDAN:

The only two interiors offered were Doeskin or
Magnolia for each color. the VDP colors that were
offered:

In reply to a message from Dr. Gregory Andrachuk sent Sun 10 Feb 2008:

Hi Gregory,

My name is Steven, I’m in Victoria as well. I’ll try to make
it out to the next Jaguar club meeting. I’m currently
driving a 1990 XJ40.

I was completely unaware that all series III cars were long
wheel base. Now that I know, it should make my search much
easier. I was meaning a black (or grey) exterior with a
solid red (or blue) interior. With perhaps contrast piping.

A few more questions though. Can the V12 engine fit into an
Xj6 body? Are the bodies the same, just with a different
engine, or different? This probably won’t be an issue
though, there seem to be plenty of XJ12’s around.–
