What is the difference between the 11 and 111 series.–

Hi Shelia

Welcome to the list.
You’ll get a bunch of information about this, as there are bunches
of differences. I’ll give a quick rundown.

Series 2 was cars produced from 1974 to early 1979.
Series 3 was later 79 to 1987. (92 in Canada)

Series 2 were first carburated cars, then changed to fuel injection
around 1975 for the XJ12, or 1977 for the XJ6. All of the Series 3
cars were fuel injected.

Series 2 has a lower roofline in the back. Windows, mirrors,
interior, rear lights, bumpers, trim, wheels, etc … all different.

Although a very nice looking car, the Series 2 is generally
considered to be a more poorly built car.

I know others will chime in with more… this should get the ball
rolling.

Good luck

Exterior: From the outside the series II’s doors are opened with
your thumb, while the III’s handles are mounted flush with the door
and opened with your finger tips, palm up. The II’s outside door
mirror glass could be discribed as ‘oval’ while the III’s is more
like a rectangle. The II’s grill, while being the same dimension
and interchangable with the III, has a vertical/horizonal pattern
while the III’s just vertical. I’d discribe the II’s taillights
as ‘halloween tombstone shape’ There is a seperate round reflector
mounted next to them, while the III’s taillights are larger and at
their bottoms extend inward, towards the center of the car.
I’m sure you’d find pics on this site and there’s always Craig’s

Since we have both, I’ll send you some pictures, Sheila. Also, you can be
welcome to our occasional local Jag lunches at the BBC in Menlo!

PS, don’t believe folks who disparage the SII, at least its windscreens don’t
leak.

Hallo,

The series 2 is more similar at the original project, the series 1.
The look of the series 2 is the ultimate english style, instead the
series 3 was re-designed by an italian designer, pininfarina.

In europe the differences between series 2 and 3 are more visible
because the 2 has the crome bumpers, too.
Interior differences are less visible; there are similar.

The series two was produced in a minor numbers of cars compared to
the 3 series .–
