I have a SII carbied model. checking out the coil and looks a bit
past due. no idea how long its been on, at least 7 years based on
the history. anyway if I decide to replace it do I get a coil with
a resisitor or without?

It’s more a question of the ignition system on the car, Robert…
Robert, it makes no difference unless you have points – do you? If you have
a points system, they can be closed when the engine stops, so if the key is
left on, the coil will have about 12V across it and get too hot, if it’s meant
to have a ballast. Here’s how to tell – the current @12V should be under 5
Amps, so a coil with a 2.5 Ohm primary needs no ballast (12/2.5 = 4.8 Amps),
while one with a 1.5 Ohm primary needs a 1 Ohm ballast.
Also, can you get the coil off the engine, to make it happier longer? :]–
