[xj] Speaker size series II vs. series III

I own a 76 XJ12C without stereo speakers. I don’t know of a 4’’
FULL RANGE speaker one can purchase today. If a speaker says it is
full range, it doesn’t have any power in the base range.
I can find good quality used factory speakers and wonder if the
series III XJ (80-87) used 4’’ speakers like the series II XJ?
Thanks,

The speakers are the same size. I found several choices in a modern
speaker that fits right in. Boston Acoustics, Sony are two brands.
Check Crutchfield.
Now you are correct about the sound quality… you’re only gonna
get what you get from a 4’’ speaker, but a newer one will be better
than OEM.

I don’t know, but the 4 speakers in my '84 have a great sound
quality, and I am a musician from the 1960’s with a critical ear
for high fidelity. But if you are trying to play rap music, forget
it, the Jaguar is not designed for that. If you like music from the
1940’s to the 1980’s, loud and with a lot of bass, the factory
Jaguar speakers are fine and tight.

Also, I thought they were 4’’, not 4’’. Have you actually measured
them?

I agree that factory series III speakers will perform everyway I
need them to in this car. I’ve spent $4,000 on a car stereo in the
past and it is not something I want to do again. Therefore, I just
wanted to replace the speakers with factory speakers and thought it
would be easier to locate series III in good shape (plus being
younger, they are probably better).
Rap music? Is it really music? (tongue in side of cheek)–

yeahh, Rap is considered ‘‘music’’ by the ‘‘Music Business’’ and by the
millions of people around the world who buy it. (yes, Millions).

Wall Street, Banks, Auto companies, etc., went belly up but the Rap
Business keeps piling the hay.

Would I buy the stuff? No.
Do I listen to it? No.

By the way, I still use the Jaguar radio too, sounds good to me and
does not distort. Jaguar did not put a cheap-sounding system in
these cars.

So where can you get original speakers? try David at:
