I have a very annoying problem. The car drives fine, the temp is
fine, bus I have a high pitched squeeking sound comming from the
engine bay. It is there constantly and it is always the same sound.
It does not relate to engine speed. When trying to locate the sound
with my head in the opeen engine bay, i simply cant find it.

This your SI, right?
In which case it might be worth removing the drive belts and
running the engine to see if the noise goes away.
The noise not varying with engine speed is a bit of a poser, though.–

Take a medium length rubber hose and put it to your ear. Move the other end around
the engine bay. When you get close to where the sound is coming from it will be
easier to find.

Has anybody experienced the same ?
Only as a squealing belt, Mikkel - for whatever reason…
Otherwise you just have to take out the stethoscope for source
identification - as suggested by others…

I assume the squeak stops as soon as you stop the engine? if
not it could be a vacuum leak maybe? Not changing pitch with
engine revs is a strange one.–

As a long distance WAG, my Jeep had a similar noise, I called it a
whistle. I tried a lot of things and never found it. Then after it
fsiled th smog test, the catalytic converter was changed. No more
whistle and passed smog!!
But, your car may or may not have a cat?

Mikkel I am having a similar problem and I assume that yours like
mine is hard to find because it only occurs when the car is moving.
Try checking the tightness of the bolts that hold the bonnet
support braces, the top shock absorber mount points and finally the
bonnet locking mechanism. I hope this works for you because it
hasn’t soved my problem. I better get back in the garage to go
squeak hunting. Cheers. Gary–
