So I have been puzzled on how to remove my door panel on my
right rear door. The door cannot be opened because the lock is
stuck in the locked position. So I am trying to figure out how
to take the door panel off with as minimal damage as possible.
Im almost to the point where I want to saw the thing off.
I have a Haynes manual but that is vague at best. Any help
would be greatly appreciated!!–

A bit awkward, isn’t it? you should probably remove the rear seat bottom
for access (two screws at the forward bottom edge, them pull upwards and
away).
The VDP door panel: first the armrest: under the front edge of the armrest
you will find a screw; remove it. Now tap (thump, actually) the top of the
armrest rearwards to disengage the pegs from the slots. Remove. You will now
see three screws holding the armrest to the door. Remove. Now you need to
remove the puddle lamp lens (and here you have to be creative; it is at the
bottom of the plastic portion). With the screw out slide (you may have to
pry) the lens rearward. There will now be two screws visible in the lamp
assembly. One is long and must be removed; the other is short and can remain
in situ.
There is a screw at the bottom of the map pocket (centre).
Now you are ready to remove the panel; unclip the panel at the sides and
bottom; you then lift UP on the entire panel to disengage the tab at the
speaker and the tabs at the top of the panel. It can help to have the window
lowered.
You will now have to disconnect the lamp wires (leave the rubber sleeve of
the bullet connector of one of the wires on the door side so that you know
which way to reconnect them) and the speaker wires.
On refitting it helps to bend outwards the tab holders on the door itself to
ease placement.
Good luck. Have someone prepared to give you a massage afterwards - the door
panel is not meant to be removed while the door is shut!

First get rid of the Haynes manual-they are junk.
Remove the rear seat cushion which gives more access to the door
trim and screws securing the lower part of the arm rest. Remove ash
tray and securing screw etc and furflex door felt trim.
Ideally make/bend up a right-angled blade and use this to get
behind the trim card to pull it away from the door shell without
damage to the card. This should gain access to the lock mechanism
and rods which you can then open the door by.
I don t believe there is another way.–

restoration taking place) which made the job a lot easier.

What would be a better alternative to the Haynes? It has
proved itself to be garbage on several occasions. I’ve heard
many people talking about their Jaguar Technical manuals
which are on cd’s. Where can I pick one up?
Good work! The alternative is the Jaguar Service Manual for the Series III
cars; these are very often available on eBay.

and other info.–
