Ken,
Have to also tell you that for the third time in about a week my aux fan is back running again.
Went to the local parts store and found a relay that fits in the stock socket and pins match. While I did
order a new OEM relay from Coventry West, its not here and I need to drive the XJ (daily driver pickup
puked on me over the weekend with a fuel leak) to get around town.
The new relay is from a Checker/ORielly Automotive parts house and is a “BWD Automotove” part
number R681 and replaces the Bosch that I was kindly given last week (that gave up the ghost over
the weekend) that had the part number 0332 204 122 stamped on it. The new BWD relay cost a
whopping $12 and has a LIFETIME guarantee, so is a good deal. When the OEM relay from CW
arrives it will be placed in the glovebox “just in case!”
I stuck it in the socket, turned the A/C and IGN on and the fan works great. Just did a trip to the
junkyard looking for parts for the truck and the water temp did not get above 95c, which is excellent as
over the weekend when the Bosch relay going out had the water temp at 115 even while driving on the
road.
Hope the trouble-shooting chart that someone else sent over helped. I just reviewed it and its exactly
what Gregory and Craig had me doing with my Aux fan.

Hi All,
have done a fair amount (for me) city driving - stop - go - repeat over the
last week or so as I shuffled Boy-o around.
One thing I noticed is that the Aux fan never came on, but the gauge
indicated ‘getting kinda warm’, not unknown in the desert.
How do I test it?
I see the sensor in the radiator, is there a wire coupler I can disconnect
and short across (sensor closed sort of thing)? Assume the sensor isn’t
circuit based, but is a thermal open/close type device, triggering a closed
circuit
Are there a couple of terminals I can short or perhaps run 12v into
(85 -6??) to trip the relay?
Fuse will be done (again) today…
Realistically, I’d like to kludge a bench test – I really don’t want to
work on a hot engine in 108F sun.
Haven’t had much /any time really to do things, but thought I’d betterr bump
this to the top of the list, just in case…
Thanks
Ken
