[xj] throttle body replacement

anyone done this? In the thin air of Colorado I have been toying
with the idea of a slightly larger throttle body. Is there
something else already installed on something it can be replaced
with? (junk-yard hit). Anyone know what size the TB is? I gotta
replace mine anyway might as well have some fun!–

In reply to a message from Bill Fleming sent Sat 28 Jan 2012:

I can’t give any exact information but you might check with Roger
Bywater’s firm, AJ6 Engineering. He has done extensive development
work on the XK engine efi system.–

It is of no avail against ‘altitude sickness’, Bill…

Except at full throttle the throttle body size is of no consequence -
the airflow is being restricted by the throttle butterfly; you just need
more pedal for the same engine output. On the moon the engine gets no
air at all, and there is nothing to be done about it - and here on Earth
one has to move to a lower level…or fit a turbo…

However; increasing throttle body is arguably a performance issue when
WOT is used - though the engine itself may run out of puff anyway due to
the restrictions inherited in the manifold/valve size…

That sai; reputedly; the xj40 body is slightly larger, and I ‘think’
somebody has used it on the xk engine. Main point is the the only
function of the throttle body is to control the airflow into the engine

  • anything that can be fit will do that. All the rest of the engine
management system simply relates to how much air the engine is allowed…
