[xj] Torsen differential identification

I bought a dana 44 19 spline torsen differential and I
need help identifying who made it or what oem vehicles it
came in? I going to install it in my 72 XJ6 and would
like to find anyone that has any history good or bad info
on this differential. It has no specific casting markings
besides part numbers on each casting piece and engraved
marking which may be a manufacture date of possibly 1968.
Have pictures but do not know how to post or link.–

Looks very similar to a Quaife or Eaton TrueTrac, but not
as refined as what you can buy today. You can buy a 19
spline dana 44 spec’ed from Quaife, but not from Eaton.
This is why I suspect it was manufactured by Quaife.
This is not a clutch pack four spider gear power loc. I
did try to post pictures, but I have not confirmed success
yet.–

Hmm. Sounds like a Torsen alright. Quaife only make theirs
with the middle of the three ring gear carrier positions.
OK for 3.54 but not 2.88 or 4.10. When I asked them a few
years ago they didn’t even know there was more than one
version.

Where did you get your diff?

I bought the diff a guy near Elkhart Lake, WI. He had a
lot of old racing parts for sale. He got the diff from a
shop that had closed and this diff along with other
lockers and limited slips were for sale. So,
dimensionally this diff specs out as a Dana 44 19 spline
with a ring gear flange that will take 3.54:1 ratio.

My questions to all the Jag Lovers are:
Who made it?
What auto manufactures used it?
Is it oem or aftermarket?
The only wear I see is on the three bolts that hold the
entire assembly together. Very slight wear, but I want to
find out if replacement parts are available and verify if
the torsen gears are install correctly and not backwards.
The gears can be flipped and installed in the opposite
direction.

I have photos in my album, but I do not know how to link
the photos to this thread.–

No idea on any of your questions except that it’s not Jag
OEM. Just follow the photo album instructions here but
they have to be less than 200k file size IIRC.–
