My windshield washer pump sounds like its running when activated at
the switch but there is very little washer fluid that comes out. I
have a splice in the fluid line about a foot from the reservoir and
upon disconnecting the line at that point I still get very litle
fluid. Is it likely that the pump isn’t doing its job despite
making noise or do you think there is a clog somewhere from the
reservoir to the line?
Also I’ve read all the posts about having correct and indentical
flasher lights installed so that the interior turn signal indicator
works properly, but here’s my dilema: I have both front turn
signal bulbs indentical. But when turning right the inside
indicator comes on for a split second and then does not work. And
when you observe the turn signal lights from the exterior they
don’t work the same. The driver side light (left turn) blinks just
fine (and the inside indicator works) and when the headlights are
on it goes from being on to blinking. When the right side turn
signal is turned on with the headlights on it blinks on and off.
The light issue is not huge concern since the indicators do work,
but I’m stumped and sure would appreciate some thoughts.
Thanks!!

I assume that this splice is between the reservoir and the pump. If so, the
fluid should flow freely.

A clog. But, after repairing that, you might need a pump also. They don’t
last forever.

I think similar quirks in the turn signals have been fixed by replacing the
flasher, which is what I would do. However, the tie-in with the headlights
has me a bit flummoxed

I had this identical problem with my washers. The one-way
valve that sits inline with the washers went south. Out it
came, didn’t bother replacing it, works fine. Not supposed
to be that big a deal to run w/o it.
I am assuming the XJ12 is of a similar design. In my XJ6 it
sits under the grille by the wipers.–

I replaced my washer pump years ago and relocated it near the
left side of engine near the dipstick about a small amount
below the level of reservoir. This way it keeps it from
freezing up. Its a regular pump from pepboys and don’t cost
that much.
On your lights problem, just get new bulbs and clean all the
connections and it should work just fine.

Sounds like you need to look at bullets & grounds – the black wires. Pull
the mass of wires out of the oval holes at the top of the fenders by the cross
braces, until you can see all the bullets. Green are for blinkers, black for
grounds, the rest for lights. Unplug all and just start cleaning them up –
both bullet & receptacle insides. Then a little electrical grease or light
oil on each when reassembling. You need to check the signal connector down
under the bumper as well. You need to look at the bulb sockets also, with an
eye to removing any corrosion and lubing freshly. Do this at the rear lights
as well.On the washer, I too got a Trico one at the auto store and mounted it inside along the fenderwall. Alex 79xj6L SII (BRG + wires) 86xj6 SIII (Black) 61 Sprite MkII (Red) Menlo Park, Calif. TKR wrote:

I started the process of cleaning the connections and noticed that
the two front flasher sockets are not the same. A PO must have
replaced one. Would that slight difference in the two flasher
sockets be enough to prevent the inside flasher light from working
properly?

Not at all, Tom - if that is the only thing he did…
Have you looked at the rear indicators’ reaction? Indicators are a
right/left issue, not a front/rear one - and the ‘balance’ between the
two front ones is secondary…
