[xj] Why are there British Leyland logos on my 87 car?

I was wondering why the British Leyland logo is on parts on my car
when it was made in Nov of 86? And Jaguar was long gone from B.L.
by then. My friends 86 Xj6 is the same.–

In reply to a message from brownslnjag sent Tue 24 Jun 2008:

The BL logo (the badge of shame as I sometimes think of it) most
often occurs on castings such as the engine block. The majority of
these parts were tooled up in the 1970s when Browns Lane was part
of the BL disaster and didn’t get changed when the company changed
ownership.

The depth of this was plumbed, some argue, by the model brochures,
which were centrally produced, 1976-7 being by popular acclaim, the
absolute worst:

even the Sherpa van for that year had better photographs,
presentation and printing.–

Mark:

The BL logo remained on some items (the mufflers, for example) even though
they were made YEARS after BL died simply because it would be too expensive
to tool up again, and because these parts were generally “unseen”. I believe
that the BL symbol is still on the mufflers of my 1992 car. By the way, the
mufflers also have the date of manufacture (of the muffler) embossed on
them.
