[xj] wind shield wipers

hello everybody
I have a 84 S3 and I was driving in the rain the other night
and after going over a bump on my front passenger side I
lost my wipers. This problem is recurring both losing and
gaining wipers after going over a bump. The other day I was
driving and went to turn on my wipers and I got a winning
sound from my glove box. So I leaned over and gave the glove
box a good whack from underneath, and just like that I had
my wipers back. My question is, is there a relay or
something back there? and how can I get at it?
thank you very much

In reply to a message from jesus638 sent Sat 10 Oct 2009:

the wiper delay Timer Relay is located in the passenger’s side
underdash. It’s a Blue Relay. could be the connector is lose.
However, I do not know about any whinning unless your cat is stuck
in there, hurry up and check.

You might also check the wire junction located in the same area but
both on the interior side and in the engine compartment where 12
volt power is transferred to the cabin. Move the rubber boot
backwards and check the nuts are tight on both sides.
