[xj] Wiring Harness Problems

Yesterday my plans were to replace a couple wires on one of the wiring
harnesses and do a trial relay modification on the drivers window. While
searching for two good ends of a very brittle wire I OPENED PANDORA’S BOX.
Every wire was overheated and melted or cracked. Soon many of these wires
were broken. My dilemma was lack of transportation to get the proper wire
and connectors. I got it fixed after a long night.
To my surprise the car idles much smoother and has more power. I guess the
old wires added resistance to the system and the ECU was not getting good
voltages. Who knows?
My problem is that I need a source for all of the Wiring Harness Plugs.
I simply want to buy the plugs and make a new (Proper) wire harness using
the examples given at www.mich.com/~kroppe/jag1.html. I then want to unplug
old wire harnesses and plug in the new ones. Has anyone used these wiring
harness diagrams? Are they correct? I would hate to follow them and have
them off. ( No offense intended to the Kind Individual who took the time to
post this information. It’s just allot of work and I want to be correct.)
I also don’t want to remove the old until the new one is made.
Now for the Window motor relay. I think I can figure out how to wire
it up. The Web Site that has the XJ Book tells how to do it. However when
you try to look at Figure ( 9, 10, 11, 12 or whatever it was ) it goes to a
vacuums diagram or something. Anyway does anyone know where on American
Vehicles I could find SPDT or DPDT relays that I could use. Radio Shack
sells the relays for $6.99 ea. Two per window adds up pretty quick. A
junkyard solution would be more economical.
I hate to sound cheap. I only mean to be frugal. My car is calling
out for lots of attention as of late and I have many things to spend money
on; U-Joints, Drive joints, Rear Caliper, Rear Brakes and Bearings in
the rear ( where, I don’t know yet).
Thanks Support Group!!!

Well, the connectors on the car are moulded-on, so you can’t I believe
get replacements. Actually, you don’t really want to replace them with
the same sort anyway (even if you could). Why? Well if you slice one
of these cruddy bits of engineering apart, you will find that the wires
are crimped into the connector pins and sockets. Corrosion gets into
the crip, and the contact becomes high resistance or intermittent inside
the connector itself (if you don’t believe me, use a test meter, and
measure a few).

Replace the connectors in pairs with good-quality multiway ones which
will take at least 10A per pin.
