[xj] XJ12 insanity attack - please HELP!

“Phil Evans” <@Phil_Evans>

Loudon

Can’t think of one reason why you shouldn’t!!!
Go for the XJC though

Can’t help with the price though, but there are 2 XJC’s
and a V12 saloon on Ebay at the moment, which might give some guide.

Kind regards

Phil Evans

Well, it had to happen…

I have my eye on two cars. One is a '73 XJ12L, the other a '75 XJ12C.

The XJ12C has a reputed 51,000 miles and is virtually rust free. The XJ12L
has a reputed 67,000 miles and has only minor rust, none of it
structural…

Otherwise both cars seem to be very good examples.

Please will the list give me a dozen (at least) good reasons not to buy
either car (I have not yet seen either one) in addition to the one (fairly
compelling) reason Diane (aka SWMBO) has given me…

And if I can not be brought to see reason, would the list, in its
cosiderable wisdom, tell me what, in their collective opinion, is the
maximum price I should offer for either car in the NE USA, assuming, that
is, they are, as represented, both in very good to excellent condition…

Cheers - and thanks,
Loudon-

Loudon,
You’re on the wrong list and asking the wrong people. Search the net for the
ever popular “Wives of XJ-Lovers”. They have the reasons-not-to-buy lists on
their home page. Diane has no doubt seen this list and has way more than one
reason to offer up. She’s just saving up ammo, that’s all.

Nobody here can give you a good reason not to buy. Unless, that is, you want
to include sundry phrases such as “money pit”, “too many Jags”, “gawd awful
complexity” and other silly, meaningless, irrelevant thoughts.

Loudon,

As long as Dianne DOES NOT conclude any discussion of the topic with
“well as long as you’re not contemplating sex anytime in the next decade
it’s ok!”, then I’d say go for it. As to the saloon or coupe, I’d look
at both and take whichever ‘feels’ best in motion.

Loudon,
Gee, After Doug’s reply, anything I said would be anti-climactic (sp?)

So I will take it into another vein…
I have the “JEC Jaguar/Daimler XJ6 Restoration Book”
(ISBN# 1 873098 31 6) by John Williams.
Stamford Press Pte.Ltd.

The book, ( 25 pages) covers the XJ6C resto.
Cover photo, will make you say WOW!
It is the color of Doug’s car,
Further into the pages, it has a full page photo
of the car when first acquired.
I have posted a scan to photo’s page,
under the headings “XJ” , & " Restoration"

(Here is my vein)
Seeing the condition of this car then,
One could say look at what it started out as…
and THEN, anything you look at would seem,
as if it were absolutely PERFECT!
and a " Just think what we could do with this one"
would be enough to assuade, the opinions of that “other” group
Doug recommended. 8^)

Oh Yeah, also have a look at the space
between the tire, and fender well . (wing)…
Who was it saying that ** they** had alot???
