[xj] XJ6 IFS QUESTIONS ?help?

Guys I was on here awhile ago but email addy mixup caused me to re-
register. Anyway, I have welded in a XJ6 ifs in my 48 ford p/u. I
have two questions: where is a good place to get quality front end
rebuild parts (ball joints ETC) for reasonable prices ( I freely
admit I am cheapppp!) And are there any shocks that I can use that
might be a little shorter than what came with the frontend? I know
I can research but if someone knows the specs (travel of shock etc)
than I can see if I can get a shorter shock that will provide an
adequate ride and minimize the customizing needed for a shock
mount. Whew! That was a mouthful! When on here last I was amazed
at the quality of knowledge so I am hoping to pick your brains on
these. Thanks and its good to be back!–

you can try normal auto parts stores for tie rods and shocks, just
have to find a helpful parts person who won’t ask the dumb
question: ‘‘what kind of car?’’, you know, those that can’t find a
part without the store computer… I like cheap shocks because they
are usually softer, hell, even Sears shocks will do the job.
Otherwise I can’t help with shock travel or shock specs. Life used
to be simpler.

As to other more specific suspension parts, you might check the
hundreds of Jaguar parts vendors all accross the USA and by
searching for a given part in google and ordering online, but the
best prices are in the South. Forget ordering parts from
California, and from anyone above Tennessee.

here’s one that has the parts but not the lowest prices:

Rock Auto has many parts too.

good luck.

For front end parts, talk to Coventry West http://www.coventrywest.com
(I presume you’re in the US?). Welsh is also good. www.welshent.com/

Zurdo and Craig (you helped a number of months ago when I was first
on here so thanks again Craig!) thanks for the info. If you come
up with anything on the shocks I would appreciate any help. Zurdo
you are sooo right about going to todays parts house. If you havea
custom app its almost comical!–
