[xj40] 1988 Cibie Headlight clear lens replacement

Hello

Anyone ever done this?

I have a block light with a cracked clear lens, but nice shiny
reflective backing. I also have a spare light with a good lens,
but poor, peeled backing.

I tried cutting the lens out to swap them, but it’s really in
there, and I wondered if the cavity would be vacuum sealed anyway,
making my efforts moot.

As we know these lights are costly. I could swap to quads, as a
resort, but then I’d have to paint the surrounds to match.

Short of searching for a good used one, does anyone have any
comments?

Thanks,
Rob–

In reply to a message from Robert Laughton sent Sun 9 Dec 2007:

Havent been there, but I think it should be possible to do it,
some plate and clips may be removed/bended. The brick lights are
not vaccum, but the round quads are (I think).

First you must remove the lense and look at it before taking any
decision.

Other possibility is to get anew one from a specialist, a breaker
or JDHT.
