[xj40] 1993 6 litre v12

when up to temp and ignition off, should you be able to turn
engine fan freely by hand or should it be linked to engine
revolutions, although my temp never exceeds N on gauge there
seems to be a lot of heat under the bonnet, and where my
electric fans used to kick in when parked up,they no longer
seem to.any ideas please.–

The mechanical fan should turn somewhat freely with the engine off,
if it does not, the clutch is locked up.

When the clutch locked up on my '89 Xj6, it sounded like I was
driving a turboprop.

maybe the V12 is different than my 4.0L, but my '93 has dual
electric fans that are not connected to the engine in any way…my
fans will occasionally stay on after I turn off the ignition if the
ambient temp is very high and I have been driving in stop & go
traffic…but they only stay on for a couple of mins…–

Cliff
The V12 is very different to the late 4.0. It needs all the coolong it can
grab !
There is an engine mounted viscous clutch fan and two additional electric
fans. Both my electric fans run most of the time even in only moderate heat.
They must really work hard in ambient temps above 90 deg!

with over 100,000 miles you tend to get dark creases in your
leather seating, now these dark creases seem to be lacking in
colour, anyone know how to clean out the grime without
damaging the leather but also restore origonal colour, which
in my case is neither cream nor white,if you look at my
photo album, can anyone tell me what colour that leather
is,im under the impression that this car was returned to
factory shortly after delivary(01/08/93) for a complete
retrim in a colour that wasnt available at time of
delivary,any ideas.–

Where do you live Cringer?

If you are in the UK there is a company that sells a product called
Liquid Leather and its the best I have ever used. Not only does it
clean and condition. It also fills the car with a new leather
smell. I personally will not use anything else.

They also sell a product called Scuff Master which is a way you can
actually re-colour your seats back to original condition. All they
need if I remember correctly is your vin number so they can get the
correct colour match. Againwonderful product, which I have used!

The companies contact info is

Gliptone Leathercare LTD, 250 Halifax Road, Todmorden West
Yorkshire OL14 5SQ. Tel 01706 819365, website address
www.liquidleather.com.

Their web site is a little out dated but please dont be put of by
it.

If you live in the USAOrder the stuff anyway :O)–
