Hello everyone. I installed an alarm on my 1991 VDP. I would
like to set up a channel with a ground output to power the
button beside the defrost button. It locks all the doors and
raises all the windows and sunroof. I’ve looked at my Hayne’s
Manual at looked for the wiring but cannot find it. Will
someone please assist me at figuring out which wire do I need
to ground in order to activate the button? Thank you so much.–

Daniel,
Behind the A/C panel there is a 12-way white connector which
serves the clock and the ‘locate’ lights for the centre
console switches as well as the lock (‘panic’) switch function.
Pin 10 of that connector on a White/brown wire is ignition
switched ground when the key is in position (I) (or (II))
Pin 4 of that connector on a Slate/green wire puts pin 33 of
the 36-way black connector on the CPU to ground via the
ignition switch when the console lock switch is pressed.
Does that answer your question?–

I see. So by grounding the slate/green wire, it’ll activate
the panic button. The purpose of me doing this to activate the
panic button away from the car through my remote. Will there
be an issue since the the key won’t be in position I or II–

Daniel,
I don’t know the answer to that question because I don’t
know how the CPU works to close all of the windows, sunroof
and lock the doors when that panic button is pressed. The
CPU may itself need ignition switched power and/or ignition
switched ground to perform that function.
Obviously the CPU’s involvement in the remote locking system
doesn’t 'cos the key ain’t in, so perhaps grounding that
Slate/green wire remotely will work.
Why not try it?–
