[xj40] Auto Trabsmission Fluid Renewal

According to my Haynes manual, a auto transmission fill from
dry requires 8 litres of fluid, but a Drain and Refil only 3
litres.

By my math this means that 5 litres of old fluid remain in
the system? Does it matter? Can the system be fully flushed
somehow?

The only way I know of to get a majority of the trans fluid
in a single change is with some specialized equipment that
will pump in new fluid via the trans cooler line as the old
is removed.

Even that is not 100% effective, but a faster method than
changing about 40% of the fluid each change.

Many of us on the list change out the 3L of trans fluid each
oil change. Maybe not really all that efficient, but much
less expensive than having a specialist power flush the
trans and probably just as effective at maximizing the life
of the transmission.–

By changing it about 7 times with a run in between each change you will
more or less change it all!
