To all of us talking about this issue: bad news is my cold start issue
remains, even when OAT (outside air temp for you non-aviation sorts) is
about 40 to 45F. two tries today with wildley fluctuating idle and a stall,
third one with throttle open a little worked fine. a few minutes (10 or so)
with idle pulsing at about 600 in Drive, and then it settles down.
I asked my mechanic today to see if he could find any guidance on the
mechanic’s mojo wire (explanation off list for those who know not of this)
on how to check the solidity/operation of the ISCV but more importantly the
stepper motor. I have learned my replacement used ISCV contained another
used stepper motor. The old stepper motor was diagnosed as getting a bit
dodgy. The only other suspects I have after having replaced the coolant
temp sensor is the throttle plate (and a problem there would reflect against
all temp conditions) and the TPS. As I have reported before the throttle
was allegedly cleaned out about 7-8 months ago, and I have reset the base
idle.
So, the same question: does anyone have advice on how to check the
operation/quality of the stepper motor. if not, my mechanic gets it with
orders to tell me what to buy once he’s diagnosed it. Thanks in advance, and
stay one step behind the radar gun, please. At least I had a redhead in the
car today, not my wife but not to worry as she’s a friend thereof, raving
about how it looked and riding around with the windows down and enjoying the
day and drawing glances for us both.
At least we share a professional acquaintance with Hunter Thompson and
members of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band way out in Woody Creek, CO. Do not
get me started on how something Hunter Thompson wrote nearly got me thrown
out of the Jeffery McDonald trial in Raleigh, NC, in 1976.
