[xj40] Brake Dust

Hi All

I’m not sure if this is the right forum, but does anyone know where
i can get some brake dust covers? I’ve seen a rubber or plastic
looking cover that fits between the wheel and hub. Does anyone use
these, are they any good?

Alternatively, there’s lots of brak dust protector sprays around,
are any of them any good?

thanks

I fitted Jaguar Brake Dust covers to my 16’’ wheels, MNA1803AA

Cost about 32 the set of four at the time but I see they
now list at 52 per set plus VAT. They are very effective
metal discs - the only problem I found was that you cannot
have stick-on wheel weights inside the bole of the wheel -
they foul the brake dust covers when you try to re-fit the
wheel.

They have not affected the brake performance of the car -
still no fade after hard braking coming down Alpine passes
and they certainly keep my Lattice Alloys reasonably clean.–

Thanks Bryan

There’s a lot of hills where I live. The car can be spotless, but
be let down by dusty wheels! I’ve found these in America, they
might do the job at a much lower price?

I myself have been having the same problem, here in America,
and I’ve yet to find a quality product.–

I tried to go the other way and use ceramic pads to
eliminate as much dust as I could. I previously installed
‘‘Hawk’’ ceramic pads on my wife’s BMW and there is literally
NO dust (and BMW’s are notorious for their blackened front
wheels}.

Unfortunately Hawk doesn’t make pads for my 89 XJ-40
sooo…after much on line research I tried the
‘‘EBC Red Stuff’’. While their performance IS impressive
my front wheels look like someone sprayed them with black
paint! Way-y-y worst then the OEM’s I replaced them for.
I talked to the EBC rep and he told me the dust should go
away after 500-1000 miles!! Talk about delayed gratification,
I guess time will tell.–

I too have some of those and very good they are too , well
worth the money .
I lessened the expense by fitting only to the fronts of two
cars as these get the lions share of the dust , I also have
inside weights and it is possible to still fit them if the
weight is in the right place , ie not where the weight is !

Incidently i’d love a pair for my 15 inch Roulettes on my
other Daimler but I’ve never seen or heard of any that size
, did they ever make ones for 15 inch wheels ?

Hi Derek

Did you buy the official jaguar parts, or something much cheaper
like the one’s I found on ebay? I’ll probably want to buy two sets
of 4, which makes the cheaper part very attractive!
